Masayasu Hiraoka, the man behind Mirco, was able to employ link "alumite" link treatment to achieve the unusual coloration. "Alumite" in Japan is also link known as "anodizing" elsewhere. It's a process where a layer of oxide is deposited on a metal, like the aluminum of the bezel insert on the Type-03, and it results in a color coating on the watch that also protects against corrosion and resists wear. In this application, the bezel is matched to the dial to create a uniform color theme.
I felt we had had a miscommunication. A couple was sitting next to me at the bar, well-heeled, cashmere on both, a Rolex Datejust (“very boring” she said) on her and an IWC on him. “Do young people here care about watches?” link I asked. They laughed and said no; they only had watches because they were old. Young people did not care. I said that indeed almost every person under 30 I had seen was either wearing an Apple Watch or something not at all special.
