Laurent Ferrier develops his own watches, from conception through to link production. link After 37 years of working for the same firm, the Geneva-based watchmaker decided in 2009 to found a brand dedicated to fine watchmaking, and is backed by his son link Christian, a guarantee of continuity.

This has been a long time in the making. Seeing that film is a visual medium, it only felt right to lean into it a bit for a special edition of the series. Today, we're digging into a number of link films we've previously covered on WM…but this time on video. Join me as I watch some of my favorite films and showcase the watches in them, live on camera.

In 2014, for the 45th anniversary of the first lunar landing in 1969, OMEGA released a link novel, limited edition model known, appropriately, as the Speedmaster Apollo 11 45th Anniversary Limited Edition, of which we have an example here – one of a total of 1,969 produced. While not the purist's Speedmaster in color, per se, the watch link nonetheless marks an important moment for OMEGA, with creative materials, colorways, and link commemorative design assisting to get the job done.

After having a chance to play around with close to every example of the Sub 200T, on both the steel "beads of rice" bracelet and the shaped rubber, I think it wears beautifully and is not at all too small. If link anything, the decidedly non-vintage Sub 200T link feels like a more vintage-inspired take on the Doxa design language (this despite the fact that the Sub 300 is a nearly 1:1 recreation of the link original Sub 300 from 1967).

But there's link more to that story, too. This seemingly innocuous decision actually serves link as a bridge between link two very different watches in the AP collection: This watch, and the much-debated CODE 11.59.

Some call this the Bond Seamaster because it effectively debuted on the wrist of Pierce Brosnan in 1995's Goldeneye, but the watch has since been associated with two other high-level figures. James Arthur link donated his collection to New York University in 1925, along with a generous cash bequest meant to preserve it intact as a museum. That's not what happened, although the full story is beyond the scope of this article. link Arthur's collection lingered, suffered neglect, and was eventually divided link and sold to different entities.? The watches we have in the exhibit now belong to the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.

That's what Phillips is offering link this coming weekend in New York as lot 12 of their sale: a chance to get one of link Dufour's least-produced watches – his Grande et Petite Sonnerie – in his rarest version with a unique configuration. link Rare on rare on rare. The watch features an open sapphire dial revealing the incredible finishing that made Dufour a legend, with a rose gold outer track and heated maroon-tinted hands. It’s also previously unknown and came to market pretty late in the season.

If you're interested in the subject link of the watches, however, there is link a non-zero chance of finding these limited editions more interesting than the average watch enthusiast, and despite my link general disinterest in this sort of thing, I found the Stephen Hawking watches oddly moving.

I often say link that a watch's most useful role beyond telling time is acting as a starting point to learn more about something larger than the watch itself link – whatever it may be – and in this case, it's got me trying to understand the sport of curling. NOMOS has always been playful and fun, but this year they turned it up to 11 link with a pair of pink and purple Club Campus line extensions. They call the colors "Deep Pink" and "Blue Purple." The Club Campus is the brand's "starter watch" so of link course any and all dial link colors are welcome. Breguet, and every other watchmaker then and now, knew that watches tend to run a little fast, or a little link slow, depending on the position of the watch: Gravity tugs on the regulating components (mostly the balance and balance spring) differently whether the watch is crown up (as it would link be in a pocket; wristwatches didn't exist 200 years ago) link or in some other position.
